SUNDAY SAUCE - 4/27 - $20pp - Tickets at the Y
Q: What's all the noise and construction equipment at 399 W. William Street?
A: The YMCA is undergoing a radical renovation and expansion project including new and renovated space for preschool and afterschool programs, programs for seniors and community gathering space. Learn more about the project here.
Q: What's the mission of the YMCA?
A: Our mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
Q: Who qualifies as a member?
A: Members are any and all individuals who are part of a membership 'unit', funded by cash, certain health insurance plans, or a financial assistance award. Units may be a single individual, a couple, members of a family, etc. (see Membership Pricing).
Q: What's included with membership?
A: Membership includes reasonable access to facilities, equipment, and amenities at 399 W. William Street during customary business hours, as well as participation in any free-to-members classes and group activities. Unlimited availability of, or access to, any particular area or amenity of the facility is not guaranteed, due to scheduled classes, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, and ongoing construction and renovation.
Q: When availability or access to an area, amenity or the entire facility is interrupted due to construction, maintenance, inclement weather or system malfunction, how will I know if programs or services are altered, postponed or canceled?
A: We work hard to keep our members informed of planned and unplanned interruptions or changes in access, amenities and programming via email, SMS texting for those who opt-in, Facebook, and banners and pop-ups on this website. Some situations arise quickly, and we apologize for any inconvenience in these emergent situations.
Q: If a certain service, amenity or resource is unavailable, will my dues be partially or fully refunded?
A: No. Members join the Y, not the pool or the Wellness Center. Memberships and day passes include access to all available facilities, during normal business hours, with the additional understanding that group activities like swim team, pickleball and childcare may restrict access to the pool and the gym during posted hours.
Q: Can I use the facilities and equipment for a day or a week without becoming a member?
A: Yes. Whether you're in the area on business or just trying to stay in shape during a period of inclement weather, you can pay for access by the day or the week. Members of other YMCAs enjoy reciprocal privileges. Non-members and visitors are held to the same Code of Conduct as members and guests.
Q: Are there conduct expectations at the Y?
A: Yes. As character development is central to our mission, we ask that all who engage the YMCA and its services conduct themselves in a way that is respectful of themselves and others. By paying for a membership or access pass, the primary party in the unit agrees - for themselves, for any covered family members, and for qualified guests - to abide by the Code of Conduct and other rules, guidelines, and requests from staff governing their behavior.
Q: Are there different expectations and opportunities for children, youth and adults?
A: Yes. We welcome individuals of all ages, but to safeguard our youth, the following rules apply:
- Youth under 18 shall use the Youth Locker Rooms exclusively
- Youth under 18 are not permitted in Adult Locker Rooms, saunas or steam rooms
- Youth age 14-17 must be supervised by a parent/guardian when using Cardio or Weight Room Equipment, or successfully complete YMCA training to use this equipment independently. Youth under 14 cannot test out of this requirement.
- Youth under 14 must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times while in the facility
- Youth who require a floatation device must be accompanied by a parent/guardian in the pool
Q: Is there supervised childcare available for my kiddo while I'm working out at the Y?
A: Not today. While this is part of our vision for our future, we do not provide this service today.
Q: Does my Geneva Family YMCA membership get me privileges at other YMCAs?
A: That depends. There are no formal reciprocal agreements between independent Ys, so it's best to contact the Y you expect to visit and see if they will honor your membership. We cheerfully welcome out-of-town Y members at our facility!
Q: Can I pause my membership while I'm away on vacation or wintering out-of-area?
A: Yes. Pre-paid memberships can be paused, retaining value for future use. Please notify the desk before you plan to pause your membership as no credit will be applied retroactively.
Q: Does the YMCA offer gender-neutral and family-friendly changing areas?
A: Yes. As an inclusive facility and culture, members and their guests are free to use the gender-neutral, handicapped-accessible bathroom in the lobby and the locker/changing room that matches their gender identity, regardless of whether they are transitioning or appear gender nonconforming. The following is temporarily unavailable during a period of demolition and renovation: Private areas for showering and changing are available in the men's and women's locker rooms and the family-friendly changing area on the pool deck.
Q: If a class or series of classes is partially or completely canceled, will my class fees be refunded?
A: If a class or series is canceled by the Y or the instructor, yes. If a class or series of classes is interrupted by inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, every effort will be made to fulfill the original obligation of class hours and content. The Y reserves the right to refund fees if the class is not rescheduled.
Q: Are prepaid dues refundable?
A: No. If you're unsure if the Y is for you, we encourage you to tour the facility with a member of our staff, and ask any questions before you pay. Prepaid dues, including day and week passes, are non-refundable and non-transferrable. Monthly and annual members are financially responsible for dues, regardless of their attendance at the Y, until they contact the Y to cancel their membership. Not using the facility does not constitute cancelation of your membership, and does not excuse you from financial responsibility.
Your safety and comfort are important to us. To promote an environment that is healthy and welcoming to all, we expect individuals to act in a mature and responsible way when visiting our facility, engaging fellow members and participating in our programs.
We dress for Success at the YMCA. As part of being healthy and welcoming, we offer the following guidance on appropriate attire. Failure to abide by these guidelines may result in on or more of the strikes outlined below.
- Tops should be worn at all times, with the exception of swimming in the pool and certain shirts-and-skins sports in the gymnasium. Tank tops and sleeveless shirts should cover the chest and midriff
- Bottoms should completely cover intimate areas. As the YMCA is a family environment, mid-thigh length is best for shorts. Leggings and athletic shorts are also acceptable if they are not unduly revealing
- Footwear should be worn at all times except when changing or bathing. No open-toed shoes are allowed in the Wellness Center or around heavy equipment
- Swimwear should be modest and appropriate for a family environment. No string bikinis or thongs are allowed. Due to the complex nature of swimming pool maintenance, street clothes and shorts with frayed ends are not permitted in bathing areas including the pool, hot tub, sauna and steam rooms
- Hygiene is a key element of dressing for success, so we request that all members and guests shower and rinse before using the swimming pool or hot tub
- Modesty while showering and dressing is respectful of others' boundaries, values and culture. We request that individuals shower in a private stall or wear a bathing suit while in a common shower, and use as much modesty as practical in common changing areas
If the conduct or actions of a member or guest threatens your safety or comfort, we encourage you to ask them to stop. If you are not comfortable addressing a person directly, you should seek out staff or member of the Leadership Team, or visit the Front Desk for assistance.
Any and all reported incidents will be investigated by a member of the Leadership Team. The Executive Director, at his or her sole discretion, will determine whether a violation of the Code has occurred. Depending on the severity of the incident and any previous incidents, violations will result in one, two, or three strikes
- "Strike One" Verbal Warning
- "Strike Two" Written Warning
- "Strike Three" Time-bound suspension of membership and guest privileges
- "You're out" Permanent termination of membership, guest privileges (and employment)
Prohibited conduct includes but is not limited to:
- Harassment or intimidation with words, electronic media, gestures, body language or menacing behavior
- Physical contact with another person that is angry, threatening, offensive or uninvited
- Kissing, sexual gestures, genital contact, or sexual activity
- Angry, hateful or vulgar language, whether spoken, gestured, or printed on apparel. This includes cussing, name-calling, or any other expression meant to hurt or frighten another
- Disrespect or intentional immodesty in common areas, locker rooms, showers, steam rooms, swimming pool, hot tub or shared bathrooms
- Theft or other behavior that results in the destruction of property, including vandalism of fixtures, equipment or facilities
- Possession or distribution of illegal images, substances, or artifacts
- Acts unlawful in our jurisdiction
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to refuse service to any member or guest (see "Who Qualifies as a Member"), or to suspend or cancel any individual or unit's membership, or ban an individual or unit from the Y property, if an individual's actions or behaviors are deemed inconsistent with the best interests of the organization.
This Code is meant to establish common ground and to make the Y comfortable, appealing and enjoyable for as diverse an audience as possible. While it does not speak to every eventuality, we believe this Code establishes standards that are reasonable and customary when sharing space with friends and neighbors.
